Brand Name: Avastin

Avastin Solution may rarely cause holes in the stomach or intestine that, in serious cases, may be fatal. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop unusual abdominal pain, constipation, and/or vomiting. Avastin Solution may rarely cause the rupture or splitting of wounds. These complications may rarely be fatal. Avastin Solution may cause bleeding at tumor sites that may cause serious problems depending on the location of the tumor. Some patients treated with Avastin Solution as part of their chemotherapy regimen for non-small cell lung cancer experienced coughing up of blood from the lungs that was serious and in some cases fatal. Avastin Solution is used for:

Treating colon or rectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is used with other cancer medicines.

Avastin Solution is a monoclonal antibody to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). It blocks the formation and growth of new blood vessels in the tumor by targeting a protein called VEGF.

  • you have a history of coughing up blood, a high blood pressure crisis, a tear or hole in the stomach or intestine, or problems with wound healing or splitting, or you have had surgery within the last 28 days

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
